Blogging at super speed with Tumblr
Posted by Matt.

Do you want to set up a blog? Do you want to be able to share your photographs, videos, links and blog posts (as well as audio, quotes and chats) quickly and easily with your friends? Are you too pressed for time to set up a full blog with a customised design and lots of contact, organised into multiple categories? Is that too much for your needs? Enter, tumblr.

“Tumblogging” is a crossover between blogging (on blogs like this one) and microblogging (using a service like Twitter), and allows users to share a stream of content with their friends quickly and without too much stress or strain. Sharing videos, photographs or short blog posts is a seamless and intuitive process, thanks to tumblr.

As tumblr is a recent web application, sharing your content is made even easier. In addition to RSS feeds, users are able to post their “tumblogs” to Twitter with a friendly URL. This further extends the social media ring made by the tools in use today. An example of one of these “rings” would be using tumblr to upload content, sending it to Twitter automatically and using Twitter to update your status on Facebook. Your content has now reached three (potentially) completely different audiences with a single click.

If blogging is something you’ve wanted to try, but time, setup and ease of use are not on your side, tumblr is a great starting point. It’s not blogging, but it’s not microblogging either. It’s almost a middle point between the two, and still remains a reputable and valuable web application.

For an example of an extensive use of tumblr, visit Gary Vaynerchuk’s blog… run entirely using tumblr.
