Some ex-Google employees have released a search engine deemed to be the largest seach engine on the web, with over 120 billion pages having been indexed so far. Cuil (pronounced “cool”), an old Irish word meaning “knowledge”, claims to search 3 times more pages than any other search engine. But, the search engine is not the easiest to use. For example, the presentation of the results is quite random, which makes it difficult to identify the most relevant results. I tried the same search in Cuil and Google and found that the results Cuil produced were less specific and that some of the image thumbnails were not relevant to their titles. Perhaps there is still a lot of development to be done on Cuil, but for now, it looks like bigger isn’t always better. Try it for yourself.
